SPARTAN CONSULTING, Montana’s leading Emergency Management Consulting Firm, is seeking a motivated individual interested in acquiring knowledge and valuable work experience in both private & public sector emergency preparedness and management.
This is a great opportunity for an ambitious individual with self-initiative, critical thinking, and good administrative skills looking to get into emergency preparedness and management, disaster planning, or public administration. Interns will attend government and client meetings on emergency preparedness, assist in emergency planning, training, and exercises and may even have the opportunity to work directly with communities affected by disaster.

POSITION OVERVIEW
As an intern with SPARTAN CONSULTING, you will learn the basics of emergency management and have a unique and unparalleled opportunity to gain exposure to how local and state governments and private industry work together to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from both man-made and natural disasters and emergencies. Interns will receive hands-on learning experiences, as they will be fully integrated into the Company and will be assigned projects related to emergency planning, training, exercising, emergency operations, and community preparedness. Interns may also prepare reports, research, recommendations, and correspondence on behalf of the Company or other administrative bodies as directed.
Participants in this program will be assigned a mentor who is an experienced emergency management professional. A final review of each intern will be conducted to facilitate the intern’s learning and growth as an emergency management professional. Further, Interns will have access to all Company hosted emergency management training courses and related meetings or conferences as available at no cost.
This is an unpaid internship position for college credit. Internships may be full or part-time. Work hours are flexible to meet the needs of students and clients. The work schedule and hours will vary based upon the intern's availability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
♦ Assist with developing and maintaining Company emergency management training programs
♦ Assist with program delivery and evaluation,
♦ Assist with disaster exercise design & conduct,
♦ Help keep the Spartan Consulting website up-to-date,
♦ Help develop and maintain Company social networking programs (Twitter, Facebook, Myspace etc.),
♦ Assist with Plan reviews & revision as well as template development,
♦ Help compile risk and vulnerability data,
♦ Assist staff in reviewing and updating Company policies and procedures,
♦ Other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
♦ Enrolled in or completed a degree program at an accredited college or university,
♦ Minimum of 3.0 Cumulative GPA preferred
♦ Strong oral and written communication skills;
♦ Detail-oriented; Creative thinker and ability to strategize and solve complex problems
♦ Familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
♦ Possession of a valid State driver’s license
References and writing samples may be required.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in the upper division of a Bachelor’s Degree program or in a Master’s Degree program in a related field (Homeland Security/Emergency Management, Public Administration or Policy, Planning, Criminal Justice). However, students who are majoring in all disciplines are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have excellent computer skills, be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), and have documented experience conducting research using a variety of in-house and online resources. Candidates must have excellent writing skills and a strong knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Familiarity with Website development and maintenance is preferred, but not required.
